A concrete courtyard in the foreground. In the distance, across the barren ground, hundreds of figures crowd behind metal gates. To their left, just as many cluster on the hillside, ready to dash forward. Hungry Gazans, who have been standing for hours, wait for the signal that a new distribution by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is about to begin. The American private organization, operating under Israeli supervision, has been distributing food aid in the enclave since May 27.
The scene was filmed on Wednesday, June 11, by an employee and shared on X by Alon-Lee Green, co-director of the Arab-Jewish Israeli group Standing Together. Suddenly, the crowd surges forward. Thousands of people rush toward cartons of food. The footage shows a desperate, chaotic stampede. “This video has no other way to describe it than as apocalyptic. But this is not a disaster movie, but the hell we created in Gaza. This is what starving people look like, rushing for food while risking their lives. This is what the dehumanization of millions of people looks like,” comments Green, who is Israeli.
