Former French premier François Fillon was given a four-year suspended sentence for corruption on Tuesday over the “fake jobs” scandal that was fatal to his presidential bid in 2017. The ex-PM was found guilty in 2022 of giving a parliamentary assistant job to his wife for which she was paid millions of euros in public funds despite doing no work in the National Assembly.
