French Prime Minister François Bayrou presented a severe €43.8 billion in budget cuts on Tuesday, including a proposal to abolish two public holidays – Easter Monday and May 8, which marks the Allied victory over the Nazis. The proposition drew fierce criticism from the political left and far right, as well as calls for Bayrou to face a ninth no-confidence vote.
