From August 5th to the 14th, UN member states, NGOs and scientists met in Geneva to negotiate a global plastics treaty. One country is positioning itself as a frontrunner in that battle — Rwanda. The East African nation banned plastic bags back in 2008… and in 2019, extended that ban to all single-use plastics. But despite these sweeping measures, Rwanda still grapples with plastic pollution. While Kigali pushes the fight onto the international stage, local businesses and NGOs are working to find solutions. Our correspondent Juliette Montilly brings us this report.
