Following the Xbox’s large restructuring, id Software will reportedly lose half of its staff, which is over 90 positions. According to reports, despite the significant changes, ZeniMax will focus on its biggest franchises, including id Software’s Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein.

However, this point raises doubts among some of the studio’s executives. Andrew Willis, producer at id Software, argued that the industry’s real fix lies in developer-owned studios emerging from these closures and layoffs, built on fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth rather than growth for its own sake. As he put it, large publishers have proven themselves “terrible stewards” of the industry. “If the people who create the value own that value, good things will follow,” he concluded.
