The memory crisis is something that we have been seeing in the last few months. Finding storage is getting harder and pricier as time goes on, and not only indie developers or people who enjoy building their own PCs have been affected by this, but also big companies.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg had the chance to talk with Valve about their Steam Machine, and evidently the memory subject came up. The engineer Yazan Aldehayyat said that they knew there was going to be a problem with sourcing, but the magnitude was bigger than what they expected.
Because of the shortage, the prices for the Steam Machine were heavily affected. The 512GB model is at $1,049, the 2TB at $1,349, and the 2TB with the Steam Controller bundle is at $1,428. To give you a reference, the original 2015 machine started at $449. Yazan said that the prices are higher than what they had in mind.
