Created by Technical Artist Simon Sanchez, Textract is a standalone desktop app that makes it easy to extract and straighten textures from images. It lets you load PNG, JPG, JPEG, or BMP files, select areas to extract, like signs, product labels, or buildings, apply perspective correction, and then pack the results into a custom texture atlas or export them individually.
Textract started as a side project that artists worked on over the past few months and has now been released as a free, open-source tool. Textract has a simple two-panel workspace, and aside from fast perspective correction, there’s also a one-click updater for new features and fixes.
