Greece, Portugal and Spain are struggling to contain fierce wildfires. The situation improved in France and Italy after tens of thousands of hectares were devastated in southern Europe in recent days.
The fires, which killed two people in Spain and one person in Montenegro, were intensified by an intense and prolonged heat wave combined with severe drought, clear signs of the effects of climate change.
