US President Donald Trump on Monday deployed 700 active duty Marines and 2,000 additional National Guard troops to Los Angeles—the latest escalation by the Trump administration in the standoff between law enforcement and protesters against immigration enforcement raids. California Governor Gavin Newsom called the move “deranged” and “un-American,” accusing Trump of using Marines to “fulfill the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President.”
