The Developer and 3D Specialist, Chiro Visuals, shared an open-source, fully procedural ivy and fig tree generator that could be very helpful for artists. Chiro explained that it runs in your browser using Three.js and that every leaf, branch, and vine is generated in real-time.

It allows you to paint a path on any mesh surface and watch a procedural ivy grow along it. The foliage looks organic and free of repetition, making it more realistic and dynamic.

Some of the settings are model, growth, leaves, shape, look, wind, and growth animation. Chiro’s idea is to add seasonal color ramps, flower/berries, and moss patches. The generator is available on GitHub.

We shared another system created by Chiro Visuals using Three.js and WebGL, which is a real-time snowfall system that looks amazingly good.
